About Casuarina

Clonal casuarina — the smart farmer's choice

Demand for paper and pulp keeps rising. Casuarina is one of the fastest-growing, most profitable tree crops for Tamil Nadu and South Indian farmers.

Casuarina nursery

Why is the clonal variety better?

Podhigai Nursery is an IFGTB (Coimbatore) licensed partner. Our clonal varieties (CH 1–5, CJ 9) are scientifically developed:

  • Significantly higher biomass yield per acre than seed plants
  • Disease resistance — lower crop-loss risk
  • Uniform growth & faster maturity
The Net Pot advantage: one person can carry up to 500 plants (only 120 with Root Trainer), and with no root damage during planting it ensures nearly 100% plant survival.

Cultivation stages — from land preparation to harvest

A successful casuarina plantation follows a well-planned cycle:

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

More answers are given live during the webinar.

Why casuarina over other crops?
It needs less water, has a stable industrial buyer, and gives a lump-sum return every 3–4 years. Clonal varieties yield 30–40% more.
Which soil type is suitable?
Sandy loam, red loam, and coastal sandy soil. It is not suited to waterlogged, heavy clay soil.
How many clonal varieties are there? Which to choose?
CH 1–5 and CJ 9. Our agronomy team recommends the best clone for your land.
Net Pot vs Root Trainer?
Root Trainer plants suffer root damage (5–15% mortality). Net Pot is planted directly — nearly 100% survival and lower labour cost.
How long until harvest? What is the yield?
3–4 years. 60–80 MT per acre.
Who will buy my wood?
We have an established market linkage with TNPL and paper mills. Harvesting, debarking, and transport are all handled.
Is this only for large landholders?
No — for everyone, from 1 acre to 100+ acres. Completely free to attend.
